In production plantings, it has proven to be very efficient in the Finger Lakes wine region of the USA. It is high-yielding, very frost-hardy, and disease-resistant. It can be grown practically without spraying.
It can be used to produce dark red wines with a classic aroma. It provides a better raw material for processing than "Baco Noir" (less acidity), and although it can be made into a good red wine, it is especially useful in blending. It is currently planted as a replacement for the traditional "Baco Noir", "DeChaunac", and "Rougeon". Its adaptation to mechanized production systems and ability to survive in older plantings are valuable. GR7 is a highly productive, easy-to-grow cultivar suitable for all northern wine regions. In the USA, it seems to be the most suitable alternative for the production of standard red wines.
