"Frontenac" reflects the best qualities of its parents, which are Vitis riparia 89 and the French hybrid Landot 4511. It was officially introduced in 1996. Its genetic formula is: 25.96% Vitis vinifera + 2.05% Vitis labrusca + 11.00% Vitis rupestris + 7.81% Vitis berlandieri + 51.27% Vitis riparia + 1.91% Vitis lincecumii.
"Frontenac" is a blue variety intended for the production of red wines. It is very fertile, highly frost-resistant and practically immune to fungal diseases. It can be grown practically without spraying. Even in wet years, no damage to the berries by botrytis or cracking of the fruit was observed. The wine from the "Frontenac" variety is dark garnet in color, complemented by a distinctive aroma of cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant and plum. This versatile grape variety can be used to produce a variety of wine styles, including rosé, dessert red and port wines.
