A blue variety intended for the production of red wines, combining high resistance to frost and diseases with excellent wine quality. "Marquette" is a cousin of the "Frontenac" variety and a grandson of the "Pinot Noir" variety. Hybridization was carried out in 1989, one of the parents MS 1094 - a complex interspecific hybrid has in its pedigree Vitis riparia, Vitis vinifera and other species of the genus Vitis. "Ravat 262" also has a long pedigree, one of its parents is the "Pinot Noir" variety. "Marquette" was selected from seedlings in 1994. It received a patent in 2005. It was officially introduced in 2006. It has an open habit, shoots grow vertically, which minimizes the need for green work. The bush is better lit, which improves the quality of the wine. There are usually two bunches per shoot.

According to American experts, with "Marquette" begins a new era of hybrid varieties of technical grapes, which are very resistant to frost and diseases, and produce wine at the level of European varieties. Experimental wines from "Marquette" have excellent quality, the best from the tasting of most wines of hybrid varieties. Tasters appreciated their attractive, dark ruby color, aroma of cherries, black pepper, spices, sometimes with a hint of blackberries, plums, tobacco, leather and medium structure of tannins (tannins). "Marquette" is suitable for the production of dessert and semi-sweet wines, due to the high sugar content for the production of table wines with a high alcohol content (at the level of 14%), a blend with less sugary varieties is recommended.

The first data from "Marquette" wines aged in oak barrels are encouraging. Aging in oak barrels increases the complexity of the wine, adds depth and structure to it. The variety is promising for the upper Midwest and East of the USA (Michigan, New York, New England), as well as for the Quebec region, Canada. "Marquette" also has high commercial potential in Northern and Eastern Europe. "Marquette" is moderately resistant to the leaf form of phylloxera. Resistance to fungal diseases is very high, it can be grown practically without spraying.
